Winter Storm '09

Winter Storm '09

So this has been 2 semi-horrible weeks.

It all started last Tuesday, 01/27/09. The storm approaches. You know it's going to be a bad storm when the cities 2nd largest employer, Humana, has called off operations. Everything goes fine for the rest of the day and night

Wednesday 01/28/09. I get a text from Chris, my roommate, around 8:05am and he said his girlfriends power has gone out. At this point I hadn't heard of anyone's power being out. We still had power, heat, the whole 9 yards. I go take a shower and start the regular routine. I start shaving and mid-shave, everything goes dark around 8:15am. Now I wasn't the happiest camper because after the hurricane came through we were out power for 8 days. So starts the downfall of my current state.

Wednesday 1/28/09 8:45am. I get an email from the office manager saying that Greenebaum is still open for business. At this point I am already at work so it's not that big of a deal.

Wednesday 1/28/09 10:45am. A 2nd email is dispersed saying the office is now being closed and that the Mayor has declared a state of emergency. I sit there and ponder, what should I do? Either go home to a house that doesn't have electricity or stay at work. I stay at work until 1:30pm and I am the lone survivor at National City Tower downtown. The only other people in the building were security.

Wednesday 1/28/09 3:45pm I had to go to a visitation for one of my old high school buddie's father. I take a few pre-caution steps and shovel my driveway. There is also an alley that I have to go down to get out onto the street and a few cars had traveled down that earlier so I figured I could follow their tracks to get out. I should have been smarted and known that I wasn't going to make it, but I had no other option. I drive a '03 C230 Kompressor with rear wheel drive. I start backing out and within 2 seconds I'm stuck. I manuevar the car around a bit and make it about 10 ft down the alley then get stuck again. At this point it was pointless to try to go any further. I startr backing up and get stuck again. For 20 minutes I'm in the alley trying to get back into the driveway. Luckily a neighbor from another street over saw me and came over with a piece of plyboard. After another 3 or so minutes we got the car back into the garage.

Wednesday 1/28/09 5:00pm This is why I love my girlfriend. At this point we had already discussed me staying at her place until this thing is over. She comes to pick me up and drives me to the Visitation. After the visitation we went back to her place and she continued to drive me around the city of Louisville for the next few days.

Sunday 2/01/09 1:00pm The weather is starting to warm up and I'm getting worried about all the food I had stored in a cooler in the garage with snow on top of it. Lauren drives me to my house and I open up the kitchen door and look down to see 2-3 inches of water in our kitchen. The pipe in our bathroom near the kitchen burst and it started flooding. I figured I would go to the basement and turn off the water to the house. I open the cellar to the basement and there is about 3 feet of water in the basement. I called our rental property company, which is a whole nother story on its own, who of course didn't answer. (On Monday I wrote a nice little yahoo review on Bailey Property Management.)

Monday 2/02/09 8:45am I get a hold of Bailey and they get a plumber to come over and fix the problem.

Monday 2/02/09 5:45pm I get home to find out WE HAVE ELECTRICITY!!! the sink that was the original problem still running. There was no way to shut off the water unless I turned off all the water underneath the sink. I mean what sort of plumber leaves the house with the problem still not finished. I try calling Bailey to get an explanation, but of course, they don't answer any of their phone lines.

Tuesday 2/03/09 8:45am I call Bailey and they send the plumber back over to finish the job.

Tuesday 2/03/09 5:45pm I get home and everything is awesome. This is the first night I have stayed in my own bed since last Tuesday.

Wednesday 2/04/09 6:00pm I come home and its 53 degrees. The freaking furnace has something wrong with it. I go to the cellar to try and fix it. I can get the thing going for about 2 minutes, then it kicks off and dies. No hope in sight.

Wednesday 2/04/09 9:18pm I am finishing writing this blog and my hands are FREEZING!! it's just one thing after another with this freaking house. I can't wait until October when I'm finally done with this house.

Wednesday 2/04/09 10:00pm I call Bailey's emergency line for giggles and what do you know, THEY ANSWER! Every bling squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I tell them about the heat situation and they were going to send someone over. I told them to just wait until tomorrow and have someone come over in the morning.

Thursday 2/05/09 8:45am I get a hold of Baileys and remind them about the Heat. They had a work order

Thursday 2/05/09 6:00pm I get home and the house is freezing. The furnace never got fixed. I called Bailey's emergency line and they answer, holy cow! She said they had been over to fix it but they will send the HVAC guy back again.

Thursday 2/05/09 7:00pm The HVAC guy gets here to inspect everything. Come to find out he fixed the furnace but now the motor in the blower has gone dead. He said he would go to his office and call me if he had an extra motor

Thursday 2/05/09 7:35pm He calls. No extra motor. But he can be there at 9am tomorrow with a new one. I said ok and hung up. I called Bailey's emergency line again to ask if they have another HVAC company they deal with because I've pretty much had enough at this point. She said they would have another company come out tonight.

Thursday 2/05/09 9:15pm The 2nd HVAC technician still hasn't shown up. I'm wondering if I will have a no show.

On Thursday I went out and took some pics of the Ice Storm. Hope you enjoy
