I can't take any credit for this. My manager Paul wrote this up, but I felt the information was necessary to share because we probably aren't the first team to run into this. The Cisco ASA WebVPN might not be that important, but that is how our users access their email outside of the Lotus Notes client on their desktop. So this really applies to anything using Lotus Web Notes and IE8
We ran across an issue with using Lotus Notes (web, not the client) from a home or hotel PC if it is running the newest version of Internet Explorer version 8. You should not experience this issue if you are not upgrading to IE8 at this time.
The issue is that the full version of Web Notes does not work under IE8 because the Active-X plug-in that loads Notes is not working with this version. You will get an error that says something like iNotes Plug is not authorized or another general error message and Lotus Notes will not open the inbox.
If you experience this issue we have found that you should be able to run Lotus Notes in what they refer to as Lite Mode. To do this you need to use the menu that is in the upper right corner of your Web Notes screen and click the word Full and change the select to Lite Mode. You should be able to do this even if you get the error and the Inbox does not load. This will reconfigure Notes for lite mode which is a smaller version of web notes which does not require the plugin. The Inbox should load and you should still have access to mail and calendar events and most functions.
My understanding is that Lotus is working on a fix but it will not be available until an update comes out for Lotus Notes 8.5 and that will not be until later this year.
Also Lotus does not officially support Mozilla although it seems to run fairly well but we have experienced some minor issues from time to time. Lotus does not support Safari. However in both cases running the Lite Mode might work and I recommend that you try this if you have any problems.
